Enrolment at TPS
If you are interested in enroling at Tākaka Primary School we ask that you please contact our school office to arrange a meeting with our Principal Corinne Rowe to learn about what Tākaka Primary School can offer your child. This will include a tour of the school to see learning in action and to see the amazing facilities we as school offer to enhance the learning opportunities we provide for our tamariki.
We hold an open day twice a year to allow any prospective new parents the opportunity to hear what we offer and who we are, and to take a tour of our classrooms and school to see learning in action. These are advertised on our school Facebook page and through the early learning centres.
Transitions
We have a dedicated Transitions Coordinator whose role is to support you to ensure a smooth transition for you and your child into our school whānau. Your child will have three school visits prior to starting school to support a smooth transition from early learning centres or home. Our visits happen during the two weeks before your child starts school. We understand that starting school is a big life event for all whānau and want to ensure you feel supported as part of the process as well.
These visits look like this:
First visit with the whānau
Second visit with a small group of their peers and key teacher from the early learning centre
The third visit we strive for more independence and ask that you drop your child off and leave them at school for this visit to be part of the class programme.
We understand that parents and whānau are the experts and know their children better than anyone, and we want you to feel welcome and comfortable in our school as well. We recognise that transitions will be a different experience from child to child, and as such, we believe in a ‘flexible, needs based approach’ to ensure all children and whānau feel successful in this transition process.
Additional Needs/Concerns:
We have a skilled wrap-around team for learning and support at our school. If your child has any additional needs, or perhaps you just have concerns/information that you would like to share, we can organise a transition discussion, or a transition meeting. Transition discussions are more informal and involve parents and whānau, the teacher, and our Inclusion Coordinator. Transition meetings are more structured and may involve ECE key teachers, the school teacher, parents/whānau, our Inclusion Co-ordinator and any other agencies who are supporting your child. We can hold these meetings at a location that feels right for you.
Enrolments
All enrolments are completed online.
Simply click on the link to the right and fill in the online enrolment form and bring in a copy of your child's birth certificate and a copy of their immunisation record (if applicable) to our school office. Corina or Hayley will make copies of this and our Transitions Co-ordinator will be in touch to organise your visits.
