Children
need nutritious lunches to help them learn and grow. The
foods illustrated here show how easy it can be to make a
healthy lunch. |
 |
Try different breads - Try alternatives to standard
sandwich bread e.g. French stick, wholemeal pita,
rolls, flat bread (go for wholegrain / wholemeal
versions). |
 |
Make fruit and vegetables fun to eat - cut fruit and
vegetables into small edible pieces such as
vegetable sticks and orange segments. This makes it
easier for children to eat. |
 |
Keep food cool - Frozen water bottles are a great
way to keep lunch boxes cool. |
 |
Add hot food - In the colder months try a thermos of
hot delicious home made soup or a good quality
commercial soup (watch the salt content of
commercial soups). |
 |
Getting kids involved in food preparation helps them
learn about healthy food - By helping to cook they
develop new skills and are more likely to try the
foods they make |
 |
Eat what you grow - A great way to encourage
children to eat vegetables is to involve them in a
vege patch. Some vegetables are very easy to grow
and don't need much space (Try radishes, carrots,
celery). |
