About Us

Takaka Primary School is a contributing co-educational state school, situated in beautiful Golden Bay.

There are approximately 130 families who contribute to the school drawing from a 26 km radius. Dairying, horticulture and aquaculture are the predominate land uses and there are a significant number of crafts people. This leads to a wonderfully diverse community.

The majority of the children attending are European with the balance being Maori. At present, Takaka Primary School has eight full-time teachers for a roll of approximately 185 children.

We endeavour to provide a wide variety of learning situations and experiences, and welcome the community into the school to share their skills and assist the staff.

The rooms are spacious and attractive. There is a special needs withdrawal room, and a well stocked library. A hall/gymnasium with an attached computer suite are important aspects of our school. By the end of 2012 all of the classrooms will have been remodelled within the last 5 years. The teacher resource room is ample in size, giving teachers access to a wide variety of resources. The swimming pool is well used in the great Golden Bay climate.

The grounds are expansive providing a well used community asset for Saturday sports. The school has close links with the neighbouring Golden Bay High School (Years 7-13) and the Golden Bay Kindergarten.
